Teflon EcoElite

Teflon® EcoElite

As part of our continual commitment to adopt more sustainable production methods, we have phased out the use of PFAS in all Tempotest® Italian Performance Fabrics and in partnership with Chemours developed the world’s first plant-based PFAS-free finish for all our performance fabric offerings. Teflon EcoElite™ for Pará is renewably sourced and is up to three times more durable than other non-fluorinated, water repellent finishes. As a bio-based solution, its production leaves a smaller environmental footprint and is bluesign® approved.

Tempotest® fabrics finished with EcoElite™ are oil cleanable and offer the same superior water repellency, UV resistance and workability that has become synonymous with the Tempotest® brand.

It is important to note that previous generation fabrics finished with (C6) Teflon Extreme, do not contain any PFOA, PFOS, or any other PFAS formulations known to be harmful. For more information about the recently replaced Teflon Extreme finish, please see below.

Teflon Extreme

Teflon® Extreme by Parà

Teflon™ Extreme by Parà is a surface treatment that forms a molecular barrier around each fiber, providing protection that repels water and oil-based stains. During the production process, the fabric is submerged into the Teflon™ Extreme finishing bath creating a superior bond with the fiber and forming an invisible protective barrier. The highly repellent components contained in this barrier allow water and rain to wash away dirt, eliminating marks and preserving the fabric’s beauty and performance over time.

All Tempotest Home outdoor products finished with (C6) Teflon™ Extreme by Parà contain PFAs. However, in accordance with the Reach regulation all the PFAS used by Parà do not contain PFOA or PFOS.

Although the use of these products is permitted by international regulations (C6 Products). Parà has proactively developed the world’s first plant-based PFAS-free finish for all Tempotest® performance fabric offerings, called Teflon EcoElite™.

Finishes containing fluorine offer far superior oil repellency when compared to fluorine-free products for use on outdoor fabrics.

Hi-Clean

Hi-Clean Finishing

All Tempotest® fabrics are treated with a special type of finishing, called Hi-Clean, that creates an impenetrable barrier without compromising the fabric's breathability. The Hi-Clean finishing makes Tempotest fabrics repellent to water, grease, and oil as well as protects against rotting and the formation of mold and fungus. Hi-Clean makes the fabric self-cleaning, allowing dirt as well as fine dust and pollution to wash away with water or rain.

Confidence in Textiles

Confidence in Textiles

This has been the motto of the independent test institutes of the International Oeko-Tex Association since 1992. Products of all types that are tested for harmful substances and found to pose no risk whatsoever to health are given the Oeko-TexStandard 100 certificate of approval. Tempotest fabrics continually receive this designation.

Pattern Selection Factors

Solar Heat Protection

Solar Heat Protection

Indicates the % of solar heat & infrared rays that a fabric will reflect and absorb. All the fabrics in the Tempotest Collection offer at least 74% solar heat protection.

Darker patterns typically offer better heat protection. If maximizing the decrease in temperature under the awning is a priority, pick relatively dark tones. Dark colored fabrics absorb more heat than light colored fabrics, so if the specific application does not allow for proper headroom, than a lighter fabric will actually 'feel' cooler as you get closer to the fabric.

Solar Light Protection

Solar Light Protection

Indicates the % of solar light a fabric will reflect and absorb.

Darker patterns typically minimize sun glare the most while lighter fabrics will keep the area under the awning brighter.

Protection from U.V. Rays

Protection from U.V. Rays

Indicates the UV Protection Factor (UPF) which measures how much UV rays pass through the fabric.

Darker patterns typically provide more protection against UV rays.

Incident Energy

Incident Energy

Ratio between the total solar energy transmitted into a room through a solar protection device/window system and the incident solar energy. A measurement of energy, usually heat, striking a surface. If you were sitting near a campfire, the warmth you would feel would come from the radiant heat of the fire, and it could be measured in terms of incident energy.

Maintenance

Awning Fabric

Tempotest Marine® and Awning Fabric

Air pollution, smog and other kinds of particles can easily be removed from Tempotest fabrics by brushing the fabric surface with a soft brush using a solution of water and soap (two ounces of mild soap in a gallon of water no hotter than 100°F). Avoid the use of detergents; use only mild soap like Woolite or Ivory soap. Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap. Allow the fabric to dry completely in the open air. Avoid wrinkling or folding the fabric.

If substances like tree resin or similar organic dirt that can support mold growth are deposited on the fabric, it is advisable to treat the fabric by gently rubbing the affected area with a solution of bleach diluted in water. Avoid sewing threads and trims that may not be bleach resistant.

Do not iron Tempotest fabrics with steam, and do not dry by using electrical devices.

Store fabric in a dry and ventilated environment during the winter season.

Over time, a fabric’s water repellency will naturally diminish. To compensate for this, we advise periodically using 303 protectant or similar post-cure spray, available at most marine, awning shops, and casual furniture retailers.

home Fabric

Tempotest Home®

Tempotest Home® fabrics can be machine washed (up to 85°F) without losing their water- and stain-resistant properties, thanks to the use of Teflon® Extreme fabric protector. Wash using a mild laundry soap like Woolite, Ivory soap, or similar non-detergent based product.

Thanks to its extraordinary resistance to fading, the Tempotest Home® product line can also be washed with sodium hypochlorite (household chlorine bleach with a content of less than 5 percent sodium hypochlorite). This treatment is effective for removing stains such as coffee, wine, beer, juice, etc. It will not affect the fabric’s color fastness or stain and water resistance, if carried out according to the methods described below.

  • If hand washing, use 1 cup of bleach in 1 gallon of water as a pre-wash before proceeding with normal washing with a gentle soap (Woolite or Ivory soap). Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove the soap completely. Allow the fabric to dry in the shade.
  • Ratio of bleach to water should always remain 1 cup of bleach to 1 gallon of water.
  • Do not use any kind of non-chlorine bleach as it can damage the appearance and characteristics of the fabric.
  • Water temperature should not exceed 85°F.
  • Avoid sewing threads and trims, unless you have confirmed they are bleach resistant.
  • Avoid using detergents as they can, over time, strip away the water- and stain-resistant finish.
  • If you notice a decrease in water repellency over time, the fabric can be sprayed with a 303 protectant or similar post-cure spray, which can be found at most marine stores, awning shops, and casual furniture retailers.
